Winky395 Says: 24.09.07 at 10:05 pm
No Prob, V-Tens do sound SO Sweet!Back when F-1 was pushin’ overa thousand horsepower it was much better.Heh and before grooved tires and whatnot. It should be interesting in 08 when they make em take the tracton control off?
Winky395 Says: 25.09.07 at 12:48 am
so how much horsepower would that 454 (7.4 liters) have when turning 19,2000 RPM?
Nanometer45 Says: 26.09.07 at 6:24 pm
it would be shit because huge displacement engines are not designed to rev fast
Winky395 Says: 27.09.07 at 2:57 am
A scaled up F1 engine. Currently they are 2.5 liters making somewhere around 750 horsepower. So that would be over 2,000 horsepower?
fb2800 Says: 08.02.08 at 12:03 am
More FIA rules post turbo era. 5.7.2 Only one fuel injector per cylinder is permitted which must inject directly into the side or the top of the inlet port.

EXTRAMAN2300 Says: 08.02.08 at 7:29 am
If u make a search for “f1 engne” in youtube you’ll see another renault, this time a V8 from 2006 i believe, and the principle is the same.remember all this is a test at the bench but the production engine is like so, it has the air filter above and all fits in under the intake of the car.
fb2800 Says: 08.02.08 at 10:03 am
Perfectly understandable Miss. I’m sure you’re a very intelligent and attractive young lady?
Fidelio76 Says: 08.02.08 at 10:51 am
Fair enough, makes sense when you consider the airbox and the exhaust. Still wouldn’t run it with the top off like that though - near those big blue flames. Think it’s the Renault RS08 engine, which weirdly is listed as ‘direct injection’ at the statsf1 website. Even more confusing!
fb2800 Says: 08.02.08 at 2:22 pm
Did you know that when the gearbox shifts gears it actually cuts off both the fuel injectors and the ignition for a milli second during the shift? So the throttle stays wide open during the shift. This video demonstrates this although the sound and vision are badly out of sync.

it is the best way to power power. It allows more time to the fuel and air to mix. Injectors are placed just before the cylinders for emissions and fuel economy purposes in production cars, not because it is the best location for power.

Race fuel consumption rate is normally around 75 litres per 100 kilometres travelled (3.1 US mpg). Nonetheless a Formula One engine is over 20% more efficient at turning fuel into power than even the most economical small car.
mikeb1444 Says: 18.03.08 at 3:15 pm

Exposed injectors for a better fuel to air mixture? or is the inlet manifold been taken off?
justinbimmerman Says: 19.04.08 at 2:22 am
that must be racing fuel… and that must be a very combustable situation with open air injectors and the fuel built up in the exhaust. I could see those injectors shooting balls of fire!!!
nightmarejr Says: 19.04.08 at 8:18 pm
theyre using individual throttle boddies.. prolly roller type instead of the butterfly valves. the reason for exposed fuel injector is for better fuel atomization. more power from a cleaner burn. itb owners will tell ya that the intake side does pop sometimes but nothing too series.

What’s causing the resistance on the engine? Is is a horsepower test-bed or something?
7714349 Says: 21.04.08 at 3:16 pm
Too many RPM’s for a conventional fuel injector. They cannot make a fuel injector that can open and close fast enough, they have to fog the fuel over the engine.

i do think that having such substantial horsepower in such a light car is crazy, but I also like to see racing where its a combination of man and machine. giving these cars a ridiculously high horsepower is what separates the men from the boys
XIevolutionIX Says: 04.05.08 at 9:24 am
there are rumors of F1 giving the option of smaller displacement turbo engines, superchargers at those rpms would just choke the engine rather than force anymore air into it. they are also talking about running diesel cars, and i imagine these would be the turbo’d ones since a diesel can take as much boost as you can produce since it essentially knock that powers it.
metlpinc Says: 04.05.08 at 1:54 pm
He’s not on anything, it’s called KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) and will be introduced for the 2009 Formula 1 season. Google it to find out more.
HolyBlackJezus Says: 05.05.08 at 11:19 pm
errr turbo choke the engine….? they had 1.3 litre engines back in the 80’s running 6 bars that punched out more power than ones they are running now, doubt they will go back to turbos especially with the rules on traction control and the 2 races for an engine they wouldn’t last
aaron9696024 Says: 06.05.08 at 11:45 am
choke an engine?? are your retarted? well first off if a super charger will choke an engine it will choke it at all rpms imagine this the supercharger is geared 1 to 1 with the motor each revolution of each thing moves a fixed amount of air boost remains constant over the rpm range sooo um no it wont choke it.
aaron9696024 Says: 06.05.08 at 11:48 am
a veyron vs. a f1 car would be silly. the veyron would get lapped every 3 or 4 laps.
XIevolutionIX Says: 06.05.08 at 12:17 pm
Apparently you’re not aware that superchargers have a large tendency to run out of power at high rpms, and i find it highly unlikely that anyone could build a supercharger that could spin 1 to 1 to an F1 engine..19k rpms..? Obviously you know very little of what you’re talking about, A supercharger will choke if it’s not massive, and a massive supercharger in F1 makes little sense, which was my entire point, a supercharger in F1 would be retarded (spelled correctly).
strangevision40 Says: 06.05.08 at 7:09 pm

wolfbloodchain Says: 13.05.08 at 3:28 pm

torresmatt Says: 14.05.08 at 6:50 am
Yeah…F1 engines don’t have superchargers, they actually have to be naturally aspirated.
XIevolutionIX Says: 14.05.08 at 9:24 am
if you’re going to comment on what people say, make sure you read the whole conversation. The one user told me that they should put a supercharger that would spin 1 to 1 on an f1 engine, and i said that was impossible, and that it would make sense to gear it down but it still would choke while the engine is at 19k rpms. it was hypothetical, no one said they have superchargers.

biograph16 Says: 19.05.08 at 1:48 am
anon510, they ran turbos in the early 80s. Then in the late 80s they went to 3.5cc non-turbo, then in 1995 they went to 3.0cc and in 2006 to 2.4cc.

As far as I know, it’s because injectors cannot accurately ‘pulse’ fuel like on normal engines because these rev so high, so misting the fuel like that is the only way to administer the right amount into the cylinder.

JGMagoo Says: 08.06.08 at 11:23 am
It is a very sophisticated ‘horsepower test bed’ or dynamometer. There is not only a variable resistance (probably an electrical eddy-current brake - similar to driving a big alternator) and also a large flywheel that simulates the inertia of the car when decellerating and accelererating. The throttles are computer programed to simulate the upshifts and downshifts against the inertia and the fixed load. Exactly replicating racing conditions, so the entire drive train is being tested.

its a v8, 2.1 liter v8 like the rest
twinturbo1995 Says: 01.07.08 at 4:17 pm
I dont think so. I think america is pretty good with v8 engines when it comes to big hp. its just the liabilty of the engine that they need to work on.
stu22aus Says: 02.07.08 at 10:30 pm
Well actually given the fact most of this tech will never see production you could argue that with the exception of Toyota’s 1UZ-FE American companies have lead the world in reliable, affordable 8cyl engines. I’m thinking GenIII, Boss, Windsor. Pushrods or not they kick arse….
anooseholay Says: 03.07.08 at 8:53 am
And yet in the grand scheme of things it matters not. Imagine that.
MK4bora28l Says: 05.07.08 at 12:56 am
is this a old motor? i though the where direct injection (injectors directly in cylinder)
xECKSx58 Says: 05.07.08 at 12:42 pm
do some research. its 2.4 litre not 2.1
xECKSx58 Says: 05.07.08 at 12:43 pm
no its 19000 rpm
MrAshLloyd Says: 06.07.08 at 2:11 am
Alright geek, dont research google about it i was 0.3 liter away fuckin ell m8 chill the fuck out an get back to hibernating on your google researches
MrAshLloyd Says: 06.07.08 at 2:12 am
Stupid fuckin yank get back to your gay sports cuz you dont deserve to watch our sports
xECKSx58 Says: 06.07.08 at 4:35 pm
yea maybe ill do that since all american sports suck. and dont be upset because a yank new more than u about your own sport. i love most brittish people but not people like u. i was just trying to correct you so you wouldnt give out wrong info again. plus u sounded pretty confident that a f1 engine was 2.1 litre

i was talking with a friend about F1 engines and was told that it is actually water being injected to boost the octane. anyone know anything about this?
Jacalandra123 Says: 22.07.08 at 2:20 pm
Beautiful.
platzie Says: 23.07.08 at 12:39 am
i doubt it, it would be an unfair advantage is teams were increasing the octane of their fuel, and therefore if it worked it would be illegal. also i cant see how water increases the octane, the water would dilute the fuel and lower the octane per mL
HackebeilHarry Says: 24.07.08 at 4:41 am
your friend is either dumb or fooled you
ross340 Says: 25.07.08 at 3:07 am
What then, is being injected? and if you say fuel I’m going to jump through your computer and maul you. Because you know nothing about engines.
brokeawd Says: 25.07.08 at 5:09 pm
Water injection has been used on F1 cars, by Renault in the early 80’s when turbos were still legal. Water injection has a couple of positives, Renault used it to lower cylinder temperatures. They found that the power had increased as well. Its also used as a way to slightly raise compression in modern day non F1 real world cars. Its sprayed into the intake like nitrous.

milesontario Says: 27.07.08 at 1:43 pm
I am curious about what automotive engineer Ross340 thinks is being injected, because it is not water. Read section 5.11.1 of the FIA rules regarding “Engine Intake Air”.Placing the fuel injectors in front of the throttle bodies would give more time for the fuel to disperse prior to entering the cylinder, which is a good thing, considering how quickly the intake cycle occurs on a motor turning 19K rpm. Waiting for you to appear from my monitor and maul me with your answer.
Kdog54902 Says: 27.07.08 at 3:25 pm
Of course it’s not water because the rules don’t allow “The injection of any substance into the cylinders other than air and petrol”.
ross340 Says: 28.07.08 at 8:27 am
What’s that? a citation? what do you know, someone in the YouTube community generated an answer not from an anus, but rather from a rule book. Now that you said that i must do this. Pride swallowed. that seems very plausible. i stand corrected.
Semeiron Says: 28.07.08 at 2:53 pm
Obviously is petrol, when is injected and pulverized is just like water…

Trump67 Says: 01.08.08 at 12:11 am
Actually, the reason the injectors are exposed, is due to the high engine heat. It would melt the injectors. “Then why dont they just use carburation?” you might ask. Well it’s just simply unefficiant with the kind of RPM’s they run. It would take atleast a 3000cfm carburator to fuel that thing, and i have yet to see one of that size. Although you are parly right, saying that it gives time for the fuel to disperse, but not really the case.

maddog8911capt Says: 23.08.08 at 4:24 pm
thts the intake and injectors….im no engine god, but i would have to say they put them up there like tht for better atomization of the air to fuel mixture and puting them anywhere near the exhaust would melt them.

captain150 Says: 27.09.08 at 6:08 am
Those are the intakes. The mixture does get compressed in the engine, like any other. Actually the video/audio is out of synch. The sound of the engine should match the fuel spray exactly (revving up when the fuel is spraying, slowing down when the fuel seems to stop).
